by Chris Dorsey
Foreword by Curt Gowdy
Paintings by Penny Meakin
One of the world's most widely traveled bird hunters, Chris Dorsey takes you on a guided tour of the planet's finest wingshooting destinations across Europe, Africa, South America, and Mexico. From formal European driven shoots that evoke images of legendary Edwardian shooting parties
to capercaillie stalking in the post-perestroika wilds of Russia, Dorsey's accounts paint a vivid portrait of the modern-day sporting adventurer.
Head to Africa with Dorsey, where he finds well-seasoned gun dogs with a penchant for prospecting the bushveld in search of guinea fowl and where he experiences the electrifying peak of the sandgrouse
flight -- one of the greatest wonders of the bird-shooting world. With him, you'll also witness a memorable francolin drive in the Okavango Delta in which some of Africa's largest beasts unexpectedly thunder from cover. Want to enjoy unfathomable numbers of birds? Then join Dorsey as he takes you to South America, where you'll encounter storms of ducks and geese . . . to say nothing of the clouds of doves and pigeons that offer gunning found nowhere else in the world.
The World's Greatest Wingshooting Destinations is a title twelve years in the making. Part travelogue and part essay, this book celebrates international wingshooting like no other. Along the way, the author offers practical professional tricks for hiring booking agents and guides, choosing the right destination, packing and transporting firearms, and staying healthy when hunting abroad.
Featuring a foreword by Curt Gowdy, the illustrious host of ABC's long-running
series The American Sportsman, the book is lavishly illustrated with 150 original color photographs and specially commissioned paintings by acclaimed South African artist Penny Meakin. Adding to this already stunning tribute are the rich color maps created specifically for
The World's Greatest Wingshooting Destinations by cartographer-artist William Tipton. No bird hunter who has ever gazed at distant horizons should be without this book.
